Born out of my interest in Star Trek and the need for a chat alias unlike anyone else's, Captcurt31 sprang to life. He was a character, at the time, who unlike myself, could go about the net, chatting and interacting without inhibition or restraint. Little did I know he would evolve into a mentor among many, a source of strength for those in need and a source of knowledge for those who wished to expand their horizons.

After only a week or so of chatting, I began to associate with a somewhat closed group of individuals. These individuals grew closer and closer, ignoring the call of the web to be the mundane and chaotic chat group that existed everywhere else. We began secured chats and became selective about those who would be allowed to enter. This close knit group I now call my Star Wars Chat Family.

Although we all met in the Yahoo! Star Wars Chat Rooms, our chats seldom revolve around the meaningless rumor and innuendo usually found in the Star Wars Rooms. New friendships have been forged and maintained. In time, I hope to meet more of the ones I call family. Our little group has grown close and soon many of us will have met face to face at events such as was the case with Xaq_Pyro_Ithorian and Myself.

For now though, I will chat with my friends and await the day when we will all manage to somehow get together for what I would hope will be a family reunion style gathering.

Addendum August 2004:

We approach the opening of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Hopefully, Celebration III will provide the opportunity to achieve the long awaiting large scale gathering of Yahoo Chatters from Star Wars:1. Many of us are making plans to attend in April. If all goes well this site and the Yahoo Chatters Site may contain a sampling of the fun and frivolity had at the convention.

Addendum July 2005

Episode III has come and gone. It was worth the wait in my opinion. Unfortunately, due to family issues and the lack of funds, I was not able to make it to Celebration III. I talked to many of the folks who went. They say it was something to see. The gatherings seemed to have gone much like I expected. Some were enjoyable. Some were out of control. In a way, I'm glad I didn't go. Some of our chat group came back disappointed and dismayed with other chatters they met from the room. I have found this to happen frequently when meeting fellow chatters. I am very choosey about the people I meet and for the most part, they have met my expectations.

Addendum December 2007

Here we are some 2 years after the release of the Episode III.  I have maintained many of the chat friends that I have become close to over the years.  Yahoo has seen fit to close the Star Wars Chat Room.  There are a few of us who still have a working favorites link that can open it back up.  You would think that with Yahoo's new tie-in with StarWars.com that they would want to keep the room open and advertise it.  The chatter's pages still remain active and I will continue to maintain them until I am told to take them down or I no longer get any inquiries.

Addendum July 2008

Another Star Wars movie approaches.  Fans await the release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated movie release.

The Yahoo Star Wars Chat Room seems to have all but died.  Yahoo took it down while they prepared for their Yahoo/Star Wars co-site.  They brought it back but the security requirements to log in to the room or any yahoo room for that matter, make it difficult to get in.

I seldom go there anymore.  When I do venture in, I rarely see anybody but bots there.  Ironically, bots were what the security measures were put there to prevent in the first place.  I still maintain the Yahoo Star Wars Chatter's Pages and still see a few people come and go from time to time.   I'm not sure whether I outgrew the need to hang out in a chat room or whether I simply got tired of all the games.  Either way, I find little to draw me there like it used to.
